Fashion: Swap and Shop - How to Host One

Cleaning out your closet and giving away your clothes and accessories is never easy, especially with the “Oh, I’m sure I’ll wear this sometime soon” mentality. It’s stressful and overwhelming, but a new trend has started to pop up between women, and it might just be the kick-start you need to clean out those closets for good.

A Clothing and Beauty Swap is when you and your best gal-pals get together for a fun night of swapping your gently used clothes/accessories or unused beauty products straight from your own closets! (Hello! Shopping for free!)

Step one: Prep. Everyone goes through their closets to filter out any unwanted items they are willing to give up.

Step two: Organize. Once everyone has arrived at the party location the hostess organizes the items; from clothing to accessories to unused beauty products. For every item that you bring to the party, you receive one ticket or stamp, which ever the hostess chooses, to indicate how many items you may take from the swap.

Step three: Shop! With a big group, I suggest you go two at a time, giving time for the ladies to rummage though the items and try things on.

Step Four: After the party has ended, take the remaining items to a local women’s shelter or Goodwill. Donating the leftover items is a great way to help your community!

Extra tips:
  • Personalize the swap with take-home bags. Many places sell cute reusable totes from $1-$2, which can make the swap feel extra special and can be a sweet “Thank you” gift for your gals to take their new attire home in!
  • Add an extra incentive. My good friend Kelly, who is a registered esthetician, graciously came to our recent swap and offered to do everyone’s makeup and answer any related questions. Makeovers and new clothes, for free!

What’s better than shopping for free (Thanks Kelly for my new Ralph Lauren sweater!), a girl’s night out, and the opportunity to bless others in our community? Try it out!
