How to Pack for Spring Break

When packing for Spring Break, I will be the first to admit that I can overpack, but who doesn’t? Ever forget about that extra sweater you need on those cooler nights? I do! So when you never want to forget something, you tend to just pack it all.  It wasn’t always a bad thing though, especially when you’re single and have the extra room.  Well, now with two kids and a husband, there is certainly no extra room.  So I always pack using these three rules.

1. Pick a color palette. Whether you love the classy black and white or take it more tropical with reds and oranges, make sure you have a good mixture of neutrals and brighter colors.

2. Pick a basic, classic and wild card within a clothing category (bottoms, tops, shoes, ect.)

3. Lay out your clothes all together on your bed (or clean floor) to really get a good idea of what goes together and number them.

Below is a basic image of how this works…

1. Color palette: neutrals, reds and navies.

2. Basics: jean shorts, red t-shirt, sun dress

3. As you can see, I’ve numbered the items. This allows me to write down all of the outfits that go together. Such as, 1 +2 + 10 = Great outfit for sightseeing with the kids or a date afternoon with the hubby! I know this seems like a little overkill – but I promise when you get in a rush and you have dressed everyone else but yourself, you’re going to love looking at a little card and knowing exactly what to wear.

4. Depending on your destination, you can always throw in a swimsuit. Make sure you have a comfy pair or lightweight tennis shoes for all the sightseeing.

So, here is what my card might look like:

1,2,10
5,10/9
1,4,10
8,9/10
1,7,9
3,2,10
3,4,10
3,7,10
3,7,9
6,2,9
6,4,9
6,7,10

You can even put a little description by the combination to know where to wear them. That’s 12 outfits that are ready to go at any time!

Jack Wills / French Connection / Kimono cardigan, $35 / STEFFEN SCHRAUT sleeveless silk blouse / Splendid shirt / Topshop / Mini skirt, $23 / H&M , $30 / Scotch & Soda slip shorts, $105 / MICHAEL Michael Kors wedge shoes / Leather shoes / MICHAEL Michael Kors tote / OndadeMar , $175
