5 ways to get the most out of consignment shopping

Erin Fust consignment shopping in Louisville

Louisville is a gold mine for consignment shops, and if you haven’t been to one yet, make it your next trip out! I made a personal goal to be more conscious of how I shop this year, and ever since I’ve found the Clothes Mentor store off Hubbards Lane, I have been hooked! Here are a few tips on how to shop consignment.

  1. Go often. I work super close to my favorite shop, so I try to go once or twice a week. Sometimes I walk out empty-handed, and other times I hit the jackpot!
  2. Go with a list. This is my rule for every shopping trip. Taking a list will help you rummage through the racks and can create a less overwhelming experience.
  3. Try things on. Just because you think you have the same pair of Gap jeans and they fit perfectly, you might find that the previous owner shortened them or took them in. Make sure they are the perfect fit from the start!
  4. Sign up for email blasts and go when the sales are on. My favorite shop has 50% off clearance almost once a month, and that is when you hit all of the deals! I honestly can’t tell you how many pairs of $50+ pants I have bought for under $10 because of these great sales!
  5. Don’t rule out consignment shops for great gifts. Consignment shops are great for buying a high-end piece on a budget. I find so many Coach, Kate Spade, and Michael Kors accessories and bags that are in perfect shape and that don’t break the budget for a great gift.
