June Bale, winner of our Most Admired Woman award for the Beauty/Fashion category, sure knows how to stay busy running a boutique and making hats. She might make it look easy, but like most of us, June has her moments of panic, too. See how she keeps calm and how she draws inspiration for her hat designs.
“I get my inspiration from God,” she says. “Each year I think, “Oh, how am I going to do this,” and “When am I going to find time to do this,” and I think that I don’t have any creative ideas at the moment. But once I get into it, I have difficulty stopping either late at night, or I have difficulty quitting on Derby Day. We actually sell and tweak and design hats right up to the last moment. [For hats,] I need to know your coloring, know the shape of your face, and if you’re a 5-foot lady or a 5-foot-10 lady. I collect ideas and different items all year long wherever I see something that I think would work on a hat. But it’s not about me, it’s about you. It’s all about fulfilling your desire and making you happy. If you’re happy with it, I’m happy with it.”
