This year marks Blackacre's first year operating the largest Community Garden in Jefferson County. Nearly 275 plots are being tilled by seasoned and novice gardeners while many other exciting things are happening! Don't miss out on the Second Saturday Guest Speaker series coming up this weekend. Executive Director of 15Thousand Farmers, Greg Lowry, will be sharing some of his garden tips and speaking on the incredible strive that his company is reaching towards.
According to their website, 15Thousand Farmers aims to help create, empower, and inspire 15,000 new, sustainable, neighborhood backyard/front yard farmers in Louisville to feed their families, themselves and also to give away! They provide simple and easy instructions, checklists and materials including on-going support through local sustainable growers and resources that provide everything needed to start Easy Farms in yards, on decks or in community gardens. Lowry will be sharing tips, useful information and practical advice for growing fruits, vegetables and herbs, as well as sustainable pest control methods.
The Second Saturday Coffee Chat is on Saturday, June 14th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Cost is free and there will be complimentary doughnuts provided by Sugar & Spice Bakery. To learn more about Blackacre Garden and their available plots for organic and basic gardening, be sure to visit them online!
