"While in residency [at the hospital] myself and another resident bought a house. I always wanted a dog but never had the time with residency. I got a greyhound after seeing this show on T.V about the breed of dogs and it really stuck with me. I eventually got another greyhound after a roommate moved out and I've been adopting dogs ever since."
Dr. Allen has also recently bought his own plane and with his love for dogs, he is a part of both Pilots N Paws and the Arrow Fund. "Now, people will call me when a dog is in need." With the Arrow Fund, Dr. Allen helps rescue dogs around the area who have either been injured or left in an abusive home. He volunteers his time to rescue these dogs with his own plane and get them immediately to Kentucky's local BluePearl Veterinary Partners locations. With the Pilots and Paws organization, Dr. Allen volunteers his time doing the same line of work- rescuing dogs and transporting them in his own plane or simply helping dogs around the country get adopted into loving homes. "It's kind of fun getting a call with a dog you have to help- makes you feel like you're really something- like a hero from a movie almost."
