3 Finalists’ Recipes for Your Holiday Parties


By now you've seen and hopefully tried our Holiday Bites recipe contest winners, but there were so many other great recipes that came in at a close second that we just couldn't keep them to ourselves. If you’re looking for more holiday recipes for all your festivities this season, try these finalists’ recipes!

Side Dish Finalist- Stoney’s Cabbage

Ingredients:
  • 1 large head of cabbage – quarter (remove core), chop, rinse and drain
  • 6 slices of bacon or turkey bacon
  • 1 medium onion - diced
  • 1 green pepper – diced
  • 1 red pepper - diced
  • 1 large tomato - diced
  • 3-4 minced garlic cloves
  • Seasoning salt and pepper to taste
  • Italian seasoning blend (to taste and as garnish)
  • Grated parmesan cheese (garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (if you like spicy)
Directions:
  • Cook bacon in a large skillet, remove and drain – set aside to crumble for garnish (Should be crispy but not burnt.)
  • SautĂ© diced green pepper and onion in the same skillet – using bacon remnants as the oil.
  • Add garlic – reduce heat so you won’t burn the garlic!
  • Add chopped cabbage, tomatoes and seasonings.
  • Place lid on skillet for approximately 15 – 20 minutes over low heat to allow cabbage mixture to steam to the desired softness.
  • Using large spoon, mix the cabbage, tomatoes, and seasonings together. Add half of the crumbled bacon. Garnish cabbage mixture with the other half of crumbled bacon, Italian seasoning blend, and then generously sprinkle grated parmesan cheese on top. Add red peppers flakes if you like things a little spicy!




Appetizer Finalist- Cranberry Orange Delight Spread

Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate (thawed)
  • 1 8oz package cream cheese 1/4 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/4 cup dried finely chopped cranberries
Directions:
  • Beat orange juice concentrate, cream cheese, sugar, cinnamon and orange peel until fluffy.
  • Stir in pecans and cranberries, refrigerate 1 hour.
  • Serve with your favorite crackers.




Dessert Finalist- Oreo Cookie Balls

Ingredients:
  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 package of Oreo Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
  • White Chocolate or Milk Chocolate Almond Bark (can be found in Wal-Mart in the baking aisle)
Directions:
  • Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
  • Shape into 48 (1-inch) balls.
  • Freeze 30 minutes.
  • Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
  • Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm
