5 Ways to Volunteer in Louisville this Summer

Summer is right around the corner, and some Kentuckians are wondering how to spend their days when they aren't enjoying lounging by the pool, food festivals, or Waterfront Wednesdays. Many people are looking for ways to get involved and help the community. Here are a few ideas.

1. Down Syndrome of Louisville
Tutoring assistants, Lifelong Learning Programs and special events are all ways to volunteer with this organization, if you are 15 years of age or older. For more information, visit http://downsyndromeoflouisville.org/get-involved/volunteer-info.html.

2. Habitat for Humanity
Help build a home for a family in need by donating your time and construction skills or just by simply donating the necessary materials for the construction. To get involved, visit http://louisvillehabitat.org/volunteer.

3. Kosair Children’s Hospital
Adults can volunteer by working at the coffee cart/refreshment cart, being a patient and family ambassador, a greeter or Angel in the ER. For more information, visit http://www.kosairchildrenshospital.com/volunteer-opportunities.

4. Louisville Nature Center
Get outside! Lead hiking tours through Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve, help maintain the ponds and bird feeders, manage current gardens and design and build educational displays. Visit http://www.louisvillenaturecenter.org/volunteer.htm for more information.

5. St. Joseph Children’s Home
Volunteer in the daycare center, teach children how to quilt, participate in arts & crafts and outdoor activities or volunteer at the annual summer picnic. For more information, visit http://www.sjkids.org/donate_volunteers.php.
