Rompers to Work? Balayage for Hair?

Kelly Salat has steal-worthy ideas when it comes to dressing for work. After all, imitation is the highest form of flattery.

When you’re introduced to someone with a deep sense of fashion, you know it. Her OOTD (Outfit of the Day, if you aren’t familiar with this popular hashtag) is inspiring, and her beauty and fashion rhythm gets you amped to shop. Without further adieu, let me introduce you to Kelly Salat, and you’ll find yourself typing in new search terms the next time you browse online.

As the food and beverage director at Aloft Louisville Downtown, Kelly’s sense of style reflects the modernity of her employer. Tracking with the trends, Kelly wears rompers to work, follows the blog of Juliet Angus (the star of Bravo’s Ladies of London) and unleashes her spending on websites such as Neiman Marcus, Shopbop, and Nordstrom.

“The UPS truck stops at my house every day,” Kelly admits. “I also have an obsession for all things Kate Middleton, so I lean to her favorite designers like Beulah London for statement scarves.” She favors J. Crew for staples and the Frye Melissa Button short boot for long days on her feet.

Kelly is wearing a Forever 21 shirt, Beulah London Shibani Heart scarf, Hudson jeans and Jessica Simpson boots.

“I tracked 30,000 steps the night Madonna was in the hotel,” Kelly says. “I’m on my feet all day, so for shoes, it’s a balance of comfort, longevity and style.”

The daily grind:
While Kelly admits she loves the look of an Ivanka Trump-inspired power suit, on most days you’ll spot her in jeans with a tailored blazer or jacket at work. “Since graduating college, I wore a suit to work every day of my life until recently,” she says. “The business-casual atmosphere of the Aloft really speaks to my generation and is obviously much more fun and relaxed.”

Kelly doesn’t like to repeat outfits and usually starts her style each day by selecting one statement piece to build upon, such as a scarf, fun shoe, or printed blouse. From there, she takes into account what is happening at the hotel that day. “The weather, a game day, a concert at the Yum! Center, my mood — it all factors into what I wear,” Kelly says.

She defaults to black. “I raid Forever 21’s black shirt section about once a season,” she says.

Beauty routine:
Kelly washes her dark and naturally stick-straight hair every day. “Probably because I’m on my feet all day, I just default to a fresh wash for the best result,” she says. She follows her shampoo and conditioner with a blow dry and is currently styling her hair with natural-looking curls for body and flow. “I recently went from years of all-over dark brown to a balayage coloring, and I’m loving it,” she says.

You can never go wrong with black and white. The shirt is by Rails Clothing, and she's wearing Tory Burch flats.

(Full disclosure: I Googled balayage to find out what it was. Then I Googled its pronunciation to find out how to not sound out of touch when I ask for it at my next salon appointment.)

Kelly is devoted to Beautycounter products (a toxin- and chemical-free line). She loves its face oils, lip sheer in nude and its Lustro body scrub. For this shoot, Kelly had her hair and makeup done by Carrie Ann Smith at Made Blowout Bar and Carolina MacKinlay at Clique Boutique & Pure Tan Studios

Who’s ready to use Kelly’s recipe for style? I know I’m now following Juliet Angus on Instagram and wishing for a Beulah scarf.
