“The Strongest Mommy…” Dana Atwell

Survivor
Being a metastatic Melanoma cancer survivor probably is my biggest motivator. I was given a second chance at life and I wanted to do something where I could give back. I went to nursing school as soon as I was in remission and worked as a floor nurse for nine years. I recently gave that up because I know my heart is in the gym where I can still teach cancer survivors through the Livestrong program the YMCA offers. I worked out almost the entire 365 days I was on chemotherapy being treated for Melanoma. I knew at that moment there were bigger and better things in my life I was meant to do and I have finally found all those things that make me happy.

Simplicity
I am motivated by a simple compliment from a stranger or by seeing new muscles work in my body that I had not noticed before.

Strong
I have three kids ages 6, 5 and 3, and they motivate me to stay in great shape so I can provide a good example of what is healthy. They also seem to think I am the strongest mommy in the world which makes me smile.
