An Event We Love -- Winefest...Are you going?

Horses, rolling hills, and bluegrass have long been symbols for our great state, but lost in history is the story of how Kentucky became the third largest grape and wine producer in the nation. This hidden part of our past isn’t lost with Ann Karsner, owner of Horseshoe Bend Winery, who learned of Kentucky’s history of growing grapes as she planted her own in 1997. Sometimes it takes looking back to grow a future.

The Inside Scoop on the Balloons

A duck, a sheep, and a rooster were in a hot air balloon…

Unfortunately, there isn’t a punchline to this true story of the first unmanned balloon flight in 1783 in France that lasted eight minutes and covered two miles before the unlikely passengers landed safely on the ground. Since this successful flight, human passengers have been enjoying the graceful glide of hot air ballooning in the colorful giants that have become a symbol of the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Pick the Derby Event that Fits Your Family

Twelve years ago, we hit the jackpot during the Kentucky Derby Festival. A friend with the Coast Guard brought our family onboard a boat to watch Thunder Over Louisville. That was also the year my husband Joe and I rode to the Kentucky Derby in a limousine. We watched Smarty Jones win in a friend’s suite at the finish line! Since then, we’ve been back to Thunder, visited the Churchill Downs backside during Derby week, and attended other festival events.
