Arts Insider Pick of the Week: Rock the Yacht

The Arts Insider is really looking forward to finally hearing live some of her favorite Pop and soft rock music hits that occurred between the years 1975-1983, when Little River Band, Ambrosia, Stephen Bishop and Robbie Dupree come together for the Rock the Yacht 2015 tour at Freedom Hall.
Formed in Melbourne Australia in 1975-to date the soft rock music of Little River Band has sold over 30 million records and produced 10 singles in the Billboard Hot 100 charts, including “Take It Easy On Me,” “It’s A Long Way There,” the #1 hit “Help Is on Its Way, and the ballad *“Reminiscing”-(*recognized by BMI as one of the most frequently played songs in the history of American radio-the highest achievement of any Australian pop song internationally).


The American rock band Ambrosia was formed in 1970, producing between the years 1975-’80 five Top 40 hit singles, including “Somewhere I’ve Never Travelled,” “Can’t Let A Woman,” “Biggest Part of Me,” “You’re the Only Woman (You & I),”and their first Gold single-“How Much I Feel,” which landed at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Although the American singer/songwriter/actor didn’t write the ballad “It Might Be You,” created as the theme song for the 1982 Dustin Hoffman-starring movie ‘Tootsie,” Bishop’s haunting vocals for the love song remains, nevertheless, one of the Arts Insider’s favorite movie theme songs to this day. Bishop’s other soft rock hits were the self-penned 1976’s “Save It For a Rainy Day,” and 1977’s “On and On” and “Never Letting Go.” *Fans of the 1978 classic film National Lampoon’s Animal House” might recall Bishop as the man playing folk music on the steps of the Delta House during the infamous toga party scene, that is, until John Belushi’s drunken character begins descending the stairs and suddenly grabs the guitar-smashing it to smithereens back and forth against the staircase.

The American rock band Player gained popularity as a live act during the heyday of the 1970s stadium rock era. They first went on the road in the fall of 1977 opening for Gino Vannelli and Boz Scaggs. After developing a distinctive, edgy and melodic rock style they scored commercial success later that same year with their  #1 hit single, 'Baby Come Back." The band's other Top 40 hits include "This Time I'm In It For Love" in '77 and "Prisoner of Your Love" in '78. 

Pop rock/soft rock American singer/songwriter Robbie Dupree’s 1980 debut album earned him two Top 10 singles (“Steal Away,” and “Hot Rod Girls”), and also a Grammy© nomination. Dupree scored another hit in 1981 with the single “Brooklyn Girls.”
