Today we recognize International Women's Day, a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Thousands of events such as rallies, panel discussions, and performances will be held worldwide that focus on equality. As part of the celebration, Oxmoor Center will be offering drinks and snacks while you shop for a cause, with 25 percent of proceeds from 6-8pm benefitting Girls Inc.

The holiday season kicks into gear this weekend with the 37th annual Light Up Louisville, when Mayor Fischer and Santa light up the city's Christmas Tree. The event also marks the beginning of Holiday in the City, a series of holiday events throughout the season in downtown Louisville, including ice skating at Holiday Square located at 4th and Jefferson streets.

Music, drinks, and art. . .what more do you need on a Friday night? Experience After Hours at the Speed, as the Speed Museum remains open until 10pm the third Friday of every month. Each After Hours event will offer music, performances, food and drinks by Wiltshire at the Speed, and, of course, art. This Friday's events include: silent disco with local DJs, a tribute to Radiohead's In Rainbows performed by Orchestra Enigmatic, and dance, poetry, and live music performances inspired by works of art in the Speed's collection.

What To Do This Weekend



Kick off the holiday spirit this year with a visit to the 28th annual Festival of Trees & Lights at Louisville Slugger Field. You can make purchases from the hundreds of beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, and dĆ©cor, and the proceeds benefit Norton Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Pictures with Santa, children’s crafts, holiday entertainment, and Hanukkah activities are free with admission. Also, hop on the ride-on train, grab a treat at the sweet shop, and more. Friday night is Festival Family Night, featuring a visit from Louisville Ballet performers from “The Brown-Forman Nutcracker.” In addition to holiday crafts and entertainment, the night concludes with a fireworks show over Louisville Slugger Field and free hot chocolate and cider.

This weekend you can also shop and ride the trolley through downtown Jeffersonville,  veterans get free benefits at the YMCA for Veterans Day weekend, laugh with some top-notch sketch comedy, and more.

The Waterfront Botanical Gardens celebrates its official Groundbreaking this weekend with various festivities. The Groundbreaking ceremony will feature music, light refreshments, words from political and religious leaders, and hot air balloon by Skycab Balloons. The Gardens will also host the First Annual Homebrew Fair, complete with a homebrew contest, vendors, and the opportunity to learn about the agriculture and craftsmanship of brewing beer. Lastly, the annual reGeneration Fair 2017 will feature food trucks, live music, environmental displays, and activities for guests of all ages. Louisville Visual Art will also host a Plein Air Paint Out onsite.

Larissa Reece’s New Perspective

A native Louisvillian, Larissa Reece never expected to leave her hometown. As a matter of fact, her family has been in Kentucky for six generations. Everyone she knew and loved was here, so it was never on her radar to leave. So, no one was more surprised than Larissa when she took a job as vice president for development and alumni affairs at New York Medical College.
